What is
Self-Protection?
Self-Protection to us relates to all aspects of your own personal safety throughout your day-to-day life. This could be at home, in your vehicle, on public transport, on the street, at any public venue you frequent or when you travel to name but a few. Wherever you go, or whatever you do, then your personal protection should always be a priority to you, as Violence and abuse both mental and physical will not discriminate. It can manifest anywhere and at any time being prolonged or immediate depending on the personnel involved and the motivation behind it.
Self-Protection is not a martial art, style or system. It is not about moves and techniques, inflicting pain or suffering upon people, revenge or retribution. It is a mindset, a way of thinking, an adaptation of lifestyle and approach to one’s own personal safety and
it starts with you! The way you portray yourself, how you act and how you treat others will tell a lot about the sort of person you are and in turn how you will be perceived and treated by others.

Your general personal safety approach to life will most likely be ingrained in you subconsciously. For example, what should you do when you cross a road? You look both ways, Why? to confirm it is safe to cross and there is no vehicle in proxemics that could collide with you. So, within reason you are striving to keep yourself safe inside of the elements that you can control. Some other examples would be fastening your seatbelt in transit, locking your doors and windows at home or maybe avoiding an unsavoury venue or area that has a hostile reputation.
Whatever it may be, these are a few examples, of which there are many more, of everyday actions most of us take for our own personal safety and protection without putting too much thought into it. In reality, anything that offers you some level of protection from risk or harm is, by definition part of the make-up of your own Self-Protection strategy.

Distance Learning
There's nothing like in person training, but for some that's not always possible. Wherever you are on your Self-Protection journey, our distance learning options give you the advantage of being able to work and learn at your own pace, at a time suitable to you. We offer online training programmes in all areas of Self-Protection from individual informative downloads, lessons, demos and bespoke courses through to topical lectures/presentations, advanced teaching modules and Self-Protection student and instructor programmes.
Most people however will interpret Self-Protection / Self Defence as physical methods of dealing with some form of violation. There is a need to understand that violence and abuse both mental and physical could be delivered by a complete stranger, social acquaintance or someone that you hold dear. For us, Self-Protection education and training must, within reason, be inclusive, as everybody as the natural right to defence of self in the face of an attempted violation. Therefore, there is a need for the potential solutions that are taught to have flexibility in order to offer knowledge and skill sets to a variety of clientele. The solutions offered can vary considerably depending on the age, vulnerability, experience, physicality and mindset of the subject(s) being taught, although we must acknowledge that many elements and principles are universal by design.

In terms of confrontation where intel is available, the emphasis is always about avoidance as your first priority. Where that is not possible then conflict resolution via situational control and verbal de-escalation is employed to always try to resolve any matter before it manifests further. In terms of a physical response this action would only be employed as a last resort, when the non-physical options have been exhausted or were not available to you and you now find yourself in a situation where you generally fear for own safety and well-being.

Our training includes, but is not limited to providing relevant education and knowledge in violence prevention, conflict resolution, violence psychology, predatory behaviour, mindset and understanding trauma, which we combine with physical, principle-based counter violence solutions, to help you develop the necessary tools to give yourself the highest probability of keeping you and your loved ones safe. A proactive knowledge of all elements of self-protection should see you avoid, omit or de-escalate most potential situations without the need for any physicality. However, you need both sides of the coin if violence comes calling, so your preparation must include the physical dynamic to ensure you have the best chance of 'Getting Home Safe' which is the essence of good Self-Protection.

Important Notice
Like any product or service there is good and bad Self-Protection So before you part ways with your time or any money, I would encourage you to do a bit of research before you start. Any credible form of Self-Protection should always emphasise the importance of prioritising your non-physical options including avoidance, awareness, conflict resolution and de-escalation prior to any physical applications. There should be teaching modules to include violence psychology, mindset, predatory behaviour, strategies and tactics and all should be presented with the correct context. What is taught should be based on research, evidence and statistics and when it comes to the physical components these should be gross motor, principle-based concepts and skill sets. You should feel free to ask questions, query things and disclose any prior trauma or apprehensions should you so wish without the risk of ridicule. All this should be the bare minimum you should expect from someone teaching Self-Protection, claiming their primary motivation is to help
others over any potential financial gains.
