At Self-Protection UK we have partnered with some industry professionals with the purpose of bringing a new, revolutionary, comprehensive and fully interactive, online Self-Protection learning platform, with the aim of delivering flexible progression routes to the public market.

So, for anyone looking to start, progress or advance their Self-Protection education and training, this platform will provide tiered programmes to cater for all. Not only that, but for those who teach or have the ambition to teach, our course will incorporate options to achieve nationally recognised qualifications to deliver Self-Protection.

We hope to develop 1 of the leading products made available to the public to date. Currently, in order to acquire the necessary wealth of knowledge to adequately and responsibly train and teach Self-Protection, you would realistically need to research, learn and study from numerous different sources in order to acquire the core fundamentals required. Our aim is to cultivate a system that brings the necessary credible and relevant content from these external sources and deliver it online, all under one roof within a user-friendly interface.

However, this is currently in the early development and design stages, so there is not currently a release date. As soon as we have updates we will make it known. In the meantime all of our Self-Protection subjects and materials are still available for direct presentations and in person tuition.

Violence relates to any violation of your natural rights. This could be verbal, physical, psychological, emotional or economic to name but a few. Real world violence in any form is a far cry from its portrayal in most films, games and media. It can be sudden or prolonged depending on the motivation. It is usually ugly, frightening, non-consensual and on an emotional level with potentially serious and always almost negative consequences.

Self-Protection Training

This is primarily made up of the non-physical options available to you prior to first contact including the 4 Aspects of Awareness, Situational Control, Street Smarts, Pre-Threat Cue Behaviour, Red Flags, The Phases of Confrontation, Components of Assault, Emotional State Access & Management, Self-Protection Strategies & Tactics and much more.

Understanding Predatory Behaviour

Understanding the behavioural patterns of how predators seek prey is a fundamental part of Self Protection. The most common types of opportunistic violence include assault, sexual assault and theft. Whilst there is no guaranteed formula to never being a 'victim' there is generally a set criteria that predators look for during target selection. Knowing the what, when's and how's will go some way to mitigating your chances of being chosen.

Conflict Resolution

Most experience conflict daily, either within their personal relationships, commuting, the workplace, social settings or online. There is a direct correlation between how we approach and react to conflict and the potential for either escalation or de-escalation. Most conflicts in terms of social/anti-social can be resolved without the need for physicality but a strategy is needed, and an understanding of personality and behavioural traits is essential.

Physical Self-Protection Training

Entering into a physical affray is always the last option, but it has to be an option. Anyone with a good moral compass will always seek to avoid, omit or de-escalate potential violence if possible. However, should that fail, we must be prepared to employ a physical response to eliminate the threat. We teach tried and tested, principle based, gross-motor concepts and solutions for the physical dynamic from a proactive and reactive perspective.

Anti-Bullying

When you think bullying, your first thoughts are probably towards children of school age where bullying exists to acclaim social status and to establish dominance within a false hierarchy. The introduction of social media has magnified this problem massively as there can be no rest bite, leading to a range of mental health conditions amongst children. However, in reality, bullying can exist in some format at any age and in any social or professional setting.

Working With Trauma

Trauma is the psychological, emotional and physical aftermath experienced by an individual after a traumatic event. This could be a sudden singular event, prolonged or repeated events or a combination of events. Trauma, much like violence does not discriminate in who or how it affects people so in order for us to teach or train those suffering from some type of trauma me must understand the root cause and affects.

Knife Crime (UK)

Knife crime has been on a steep incline in recent years. Your 1st lesson is free, if you can run/escape then do so without hesitation. An understanding of predatory behaviour, pre threat cues and root causes can of course help. The reality is though, if you have to defend against someone with a knife there are no guarantees, some workable options sure, but early intel is vital. If your ambushed, then there’s a good chance its already over.

Domestic Abuse & Relationship Red Flags

Domestic abuse can affect both males and females, in straight or same sex relationships and can include physical, emotional and psychological forms of abuse. Some relationships may only exhibit one type of abuse whilst others can include multiple. Most will have tell tell signs in advance of escalation but this is not always the case. However certain characteristics and personality traits are usually exhibited if you understand what you are looking for.

Self-Protection Starts at Home

The one place you always want to feel safe is your home. If someone is hell bent on getting in, then there’s a high probability they will do so. However, we don’t want to make it easy for them. Pre-planning is key and by using the Private Security 4 D’s strategy, we look at our options for how we can Deter, Detect, Delay & Defend in the case of attention from unwanted intruders.

Self Defence Law (UK)

What legally constitutes Self-Defence is a very grey area. The general consensus is that it is 'The act of using physical force in order to protect yourself, someone else, property or to prevent further crime'. However, Self-Defence law offers no conclusive clarification as to where you would stand from a legal perspective should you use physical force in an act of 'Self-Defence' due to the numerous variables present in any potential conflict.

Important Notice

Like any product or service there is good and bad Self-Protection So before you part ways with your time or any money, I would encourage you to do a bit of research before you start. Any credible form of Self-Protection should always emphasise the importance of prioritising your non-physical options including avoidance, awareness, conflict resolution and de-escalation prior to any physical applications. There should be teaching modules to include violence psychology, mindset, predatory behaviour, strategies and tactics and all should be presented with the correct context. What is taught should be based on research, evidence and statistics and when it comes to the physical components these should be gross motor, principle-based concepts and skill sets. You should feel free to ask questions, query things and disclose any prior trauma or apprehensions should you so wish without the risk of ridicule. All this should be the bare minimum you should expect from someone teaching Self-Protection, claiming their primary motivation is to help

others over any potential financial gains.
